Queen's Award for Voluntary Service
This award was introduced in 2002 to mark the occasion of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, and recognises the vital role played by the hundreds of thousands of voluntary groups in the community. It is the equivalent of an MBE for its members.
Successful groups must demonstrate that:
• they meet a particular need, and provide community -focused voluntary activities of a very high quality.
• they generate a high level of goodwill and respect amongst those they serve, and the community as a whole.
• they have evolved locally and are locally run.
• have a proven track record of active involvement in the community, normally over a period of three years or more, for the social, economic or environmental wellbeing of local individuals or groups.
2010 winners on the Island were The Pavilion, East Cowes and Fishbourne Sailability.
If you feel your voluntary group would be interested in applying for this award, further information can be obtained at www.queensawardvoluntary.gov.uk
