Community Action Awards 2010 Rewarding Community Involvement

Today launches the new look Community Action Awards 2010 sponsored by the IW County Press and the Isle of Wight Rural Community Council.
We have listened and taken note of the feedback from the competition in 2008 and decided to categorise projects into groups. Each category has attracted an Island sponsor and the winning category entry will receive £250 with a runner up prize of £100. As you will see from the enclosed leaflet the 6 category winners will then be assessed; the overall winning organisation will receive £1,500 and the runner up organisation £500.
Who can enter? Any voluntary or community organisation. If you feel your organisation fits more than one category then you can enter as many as you feel appropriate by ticking the relevant boxes. Your entry will be judged in each category but to enable as many groups as possible to benefit no organisation will be awarded cash prizes in more than one category. If you are an organisation with more than one project which you would like to be considered, then you are able to enter more than one project by completing a separate entry form for each project. New and ongoing projects will be accepted.
Entering the competition is simple, download an application pack from the website or call into the IWRCC Offices or County Press offices for an entry pack
Short listed projects will be notified and a time slot offered for judging which will take place over a 3 day period between the 24th and 26th May. Following feedback from previous years we have extended the time the judges will spend with short listed organisations to 25 minutes so that the judges can assess more fully the work you do. All short listed projects will be featured in the County Press.
The presentation evening is on the 24th June at the Riverside Centre at 6.30pm. Please put this date in your diary as we invite all organisations who have entered to come along.
We are very keen to receive applications from groups that have not entered before and would love to exceed the 58 entries in 2008 in order to showcase the fantastic work going on across the Isle of Wight. The application form is straightforward, however, should you need any further information you can contact me at the office and I will try and answer any questions you may have.
We are looking forward to receiving your completed entry form - let's make this year bigger and better than before.
