The RCC collates information from a wide variety of local, regional and national sources to help keep local voluntary and community organisations informed of policy issues, funding opportunities, training and events etc.

Energetic mums and dads wanted

The Footprint Trust is looking for young parents to be trained as.... Energetic ChampionsThe skills learnt in energy and water saving can be shared with their friends, family and neighbours. This will be achieved through free training sessions during the day, held in schools, whilst children are in education. Those trained can then signpost and give some guidance to their peers. Each school or pre-school taking part will have posters giving details of the‘Energetic' parents who can assist and mention the scheme in their newsletters. Further details here

Giving World Online

Giving World Online (GWO) is a scheme set up to help to community groups and charities access free surplus goods from businesses and organisations whilst at the same time helping reduce the amount of goods sent to landfill. In the next three months GWO will be engaging with businesses in the South East region to encourage them to use GWO's free service to redirect their surplus goods onto charities and groups that could make use of them for their beneficiaries. Hampshire Friends with M.E. (Incorporating the Isle of Wight) Do you suffer with M.E. / C.F.S. and are struggling to cope?

Would you benefit from social and emotional support, information and advice, friendship and laughter? Hampshire Friends with M.E. is a friendly support group, operating in
Hampshire, Isle of Wight and neighbouring counties. The benefits of joining the group include regular newsletters containing information and activities across the county, a telephone support line and local support groups where you can meet fellow sufferers. You can also participate in our events and activities, including pub meals, picnics, boat trips and outings. We are also introducing a home visit service in which one to one support can be provided. We also require enthusiastic and dynamic individuals to volunteer for our home visit service.

This includes volunteer support workers and volunteer service coordinators. The home visit service provides one to one support to M.E. sufferers, including social and emotional support. Please contact Vicky (details above)

Queen's Award for Voluntary Service

This award was introduced in 2002 to mark the occasion of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, and recognises the vital role played by the hundreds of thousands of voluntary groups in the community. It is the equivalent of an MBE for its members.
Successful groups must demonstrate that:
• they meet a particular need, and provide community -focused voluntary activities of a very high quality.
• they generate a high level of goodwill and respect amongst those they serve, and the community as a whole.
• they have evolved locally and are locally run.
• have a proven track record of active involvement in the community, normally over a period of three years or more, for the social, economic or environmental wellbeing of local individuals or groups.
2010 winners on the Island were The Pavilion, East Cowes and Fishbourne Sailability.

Isle of Wight Community Safety Partnership Commitment to tackle anti-social behaviour

The Island's Community Safety Partnership is committed to making people feel safer in all neighbourhoods across the Island by tackling and preventing anti-social behaviour.
The members of the partnership, including the Police, Isle of Wight Council, Fire Service, NHS Isle of Wight, Probation Trust, the Wessex Youth Offending Team, Her Majesty's Prison (HMP) Isle of Wight, and the Rural Community Council, have made a pledge to set standards you can expect us all to meet.
